Porcelain veneers are the cosmetic solution to dental issues like worn enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing, tooth discoloration, and chips or cracks. Discuss with our cosmetic dentist if you are a candidate for the and he will determine if they are ultimately right for your smile.
What are Porcelain Veneers?
A dental veneer is a very thin shell commonly made of tooth-colored porcelain that is cemented over the front surface of your teeth by our dentist. Veneers are often used to correct certain dental issues that patients are not visually pleased with.
Porcelain veneers are actually quite protective and durable. They can cover chipped or cracked teeth, of course, but they also require less enamel to be removed compared to dental crowns and can prevent tooth discoloration.
Are You a Candidate?
To determine if porcelain veneers are right for you, our dentist will schedule a consultation to evaluate your oral health and all possible treatment options. Because tooth preparation for this procedure is irreversible, it’s important to consider every aspect before starting.
If you are deemed a proper candidate, you will next be asked your opinion on the shape, length, width, and color of the veneers. This design process ensures that you will be satisfied with how your smile will look post-procedure.
What to Expect for the Procedure
For your initial appointment, your teeth will need to be prepared for the veneers procedure and impressions will be taken of your teeth. These impressions will be sent to a dental lab for fabrication of the veneers.
You can also expect to receive temporary coverings for your teeth until your permanent veneers are ready.
It typically takes about 2-3 weeks for your custom porcelain veneers to return from the dental lab. Once they have arrived, our dentist will remove your temporary coverings and will adhere the veneers to your teeth.
